lil bits

We have lots of little things going on so I thought I would just do a little bit of a random post

  • The neighborhood peacock who spends lots of time in our yard was showing off for us the other day, he stayed this way for a really long time so I was able to get quite a few pictures!

  • I started volunteering at my church and teaching sunday school to the kinder/1st grade class, it was so  much fun, I really look foreword to the future weeks with these sweet kiddos.  I have a passion for missions and serving others and being that the big out of country trips aren't very feasible right now with L being so young I think this is the perfect way to serve!
  • We finally found a baby sitter but the funny thing is since we found her we have only needed her once, our schedules have just worked out that we haven't needed anyone, God has certainly answered prayer in that area as our schedules and who was going to watch L had been a major source of anxiety and stress for me.
  • I have two big half marathons coming up, the first is ZOOMA my mom and I will be having a girls weekend and doing it together as we did two years ago, we stay at the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop, TX and its such a fun relaxing girls weekend.  Although it will be the longest I have left L so there is a bit of anxiety in that but I know it has to happen some time. I like to get a cute new outfit of some sort for my big runs and I got this skirt for Zooma:

LuLu Lemon

  • The other race is the Divas Half Marathon in North Myrtle Beach, you get champagne and roses at the finish line given to you by sexy firefighters!! My mom, gram and I will be doing this one, its in May and I am so excited for this one!!
Love this picture of my boys :)

I think thats enough lil random bits for now, hope yall have had a good monday!!

52::8::Simple Pleasures

Project 52

EIGHT

Life...

One of the Simple Pleasures in Life is New Jammies

There is just something about a new pair of pajamas, I live in jammies, if I am not going anywhere I don't even waste time putting on outside clothes, I don't see the point.  So we hang out in jammies a lot in these parts.  One thing I love about having a baby that grows is he often gets new jammies. These ones are Stretchies from the Children's Place which are now my new favorites because they zip, come in way cute patterns, and are not too expensive you can find them for $7-9 when they go on sale.  I love this pattern its so fun and cheerful!

One Year

Today marks a year since that evil B**** Leukemia took my best from me, 26 years is far to young but I know she is heaven watching down on us all and I will see her again one day.  There are still days when I want to call her up or text her to tell her about something or ask her advice on something and its still surreal to me that she is gone.

Life

needs a pop of color!

LIfe is too short to be full of neutrals so I am stepping out of my comfort zone and experimenting with bright colors in my decorating.

This is whats going on in our house lately, we are finally decorating and filling our house so it feels more like a home and looks less like we are squatters!! I finally broke down and made a commitment to some fabric, the yellow is going to be drapes in our guest bedroom and the green is for pillows.

Initially I would never put these two together but I think it will all come together nicely, I cant wait to see the finished product.

Project 52 totally snuck up on me this week!! The weather has been crappy around here lately so we haven't really gotten to do much, Im sure L loves watching me decide what fabric I want for all my decorating projects HAH! Bring on the Sunshine!!!

Food::Eating Like a Big Boy

Finally after about 2 months of a solid food strike L has decided he likes solid food again.  I have found that I need to make it thicker for him to like it so for the pureed food I have already made thats in the freezer I just add oatmeal to it so its thicker.

From conversations with fellow mommies I have decided to also start giving him little bits of regular food not purees so if I am eating something he can have I will give him little bites which so far he loves my apple struedel toast, spaghetti, and mac and cheese. I don't give him enough to be any considerable amount just a bite here and there so he can start having new textures and tastes in his mouth.  Today I gave him some little cut up green beans which he would put in his mouth but then I found out he wasn't really swallowing them and he would spit out wads of green bean , baby steps I suppose, at least he was putting it in his mouth!

He does LOVE puffs, the little crunchy things from gerber and yogurt melts which I can put those on his tray and he will actually feed to himself which I was so proud of him when I saw him do this the first time.  so of course I took pictures :)

I knew that with time he would eat regular food but I was getting so frustrated, I am so proud of my lil guy for finally deciding to eat big boy food!

perfecting the pincer grasp!

8 Months

L actually turned 8 months on Jan 24 but I am just getting around to doing his monthly post.  Every month I think "this is by far the most fun month yet" and every month gets more fun than the last.  I just love watching him learn new things and try new things and grow and develop his little personality!

I took him in to the dr this past week because he had a cold and my paranoid nurse self thought it could have been something more serious but they weighed him and he was 19# 15oz so aaaalmost 20lbs!! His growth has certainly slowed but he is still my chunky man he still fits nicely into 6-9 month clothes and some 12month stuff is starting to fit better but some brands are still pretty big.

So far his 8th month of life has brought us his first cold, his first hair cut, saying "mama", finally liking solid food, and feeding himself puffs and yogurt melts!

Just last week I tried once again to feed him some food I tried bananas but I added oatmeal to it so it was thicker and he actually loved it! I also tried peaches which he loved and then a mix of corn, apples, and sweet potatoes which he was indifferent about.  I give him puffs on his tray and he actually pics them up and puts them in his mouth, I was not expecting him to actually do this but he did all on his own I was so happy!! I'm so glad he is finally liking food I was getting a little worried there for a while.
I has 7 teeth now! He is going to look like a mini toddler before I know it with all his hair and his teeth.  3 of the teeth are all coming in right now and his poor gums look so painful but for the most part teething has been a breeze, he gets fussy sometimes but if I cant console him I give him some Tylenol and he cheers up, I'm sure those little razor teeth hurt like crazy coming in!
He is just the happiest and silliest baby, every day his little personality comes out some more and I cant wait until he starts talking and expressing himself verbally because right now his facial expressions crack me up I can imagine the words he will say.  He screeches and babbles and thinks life in general is hilarious, he is also such a ham and if anyone gives him any attention in public he soaks it all in and just smiles and smiles.  I will say he has a temper on him though, if you don't give him what he is reaching for like the cell phone or remote control he flings himself back and throws a fit...already...I'm not looking forward to how this will develop into the toddler years!! Also, he can be content for the longest time just playing with toys but boy when he is bored or done with that activity he is DONE and will let you know, he is certainly a feisty one!
Still no crawling, he has kind of started scooching on his butt to reach things out of reach but really still has no interest in crawling, I really thing he will walk before he crawls, sleep has also been good still sleeping 10-12 hours at night and I have even got him to take a 2-3 hour nap twice this week in his crib! He cried a lot before he fell asleep but we are making baby steps!!

LIFE

Has Sick Days

L got his first little cold this week, he started with a little runny nose that became more runny and then started coughing and sneezing.  The logical side of me knew it was just a cold and he would be fine but the  nurse/mom side of me who has seen too many "little colds turned major illnesses" took him to the Dr. Im sure his doctor thought I was slightly crazy but at least we got a confirmation that it is just a cold and should be gone soon.

I bought a humidifier which I think has really helped at night and then our old friend NoseFrieda is back although L despises her, she is my best friend and really helps clear the snot!  Between that, cleaning toys like its my job, a little tylenol and hand sanitizer I think we will be back to good in no time.

Despite the illness he really has never changed his happy playful self, he still has been happy and giggly like always, maybe wanting a little more cuddle time, but who is complaining about that!

1st Haircut

On Saturday Feb 4, 2012 we took L to get his first haircut! We knew it needed done for quite some time but just could never bring ourselves to actually do it.  FInally on saturday I felt bad for him always having to look through a curtain of hair and I was tired of wiping it out of his eyes, we had some time to kill before the furniture store opened and this kids haircut place was there and open so in we went.

They were very nice and the lady doing the cutting was great with L, she was quick and able to work around his erratic head movements, he actually has a pretty even haircut despite how much hair he needed cut and how much he was moving.  It took her a little while because he had so much hair so he started to get a little restless towards the end but in all he did fantastic!

He looks so cute with his new do, but he looks so old, not like a little baby anymore :(

The place had these little TV's and cute smocks to distract the kiddos, they also had bubbles but she couldn't find them, I think L would have liked the bubbles, he even got a cute little prize for being such a big boy!

A few better after pics

52:5 Stretch

Life

52:5

lately my life has been a big STRETCH

I have gone out of my comfort zone so many times the past two weeks, I can only give credit to God, I have prayed a lot lately but basically since moving to Houston 3 years ago that God would bring me a good group of christian women to connect to.  I know that God puts people in and out of our lives at just the right time and he has put some fantastic people in my life lately.  It has taken me out of my comfort zone but I know friendships and relationships go both ways, I knew I needed to step out and make an effort.  I am so glad I stretched myself and went out of my comfort zone because I have met up with and hung out with some really cool people the past two weeks and I am really looking foreword to what the future has in store for these new blossoming friendships!

52:4 BUSY

LIFE

52:4 BUSY

Sometimes, life gets insanely busy and any free moment I have I want to spend doing nothing, which is why my project 52 didn't get done last week...life got away with me and before I knew it it was late on friday night and there was no picture to be had.

Oh, well, such is life.
I'm Katie a 27 year old mommy and wife. Welcome to my blog where I will chronicle the happenings of my life as I find the balance between being both SAHM by day and CVICU nurse by night.

I love Jesus and strive to be more like Christ every day. Running, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite past-times. I love photography but I am no pro, but it helps I have such a cute subject to practice on!!
