Five on Friday

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty sad that it's friday because that means another week has gone by and I am one week closer to going back to work.  I actually go back in two weeks and I am trying not to be anxious about it.  I have a job I love but the thought of leaving my babies in the care of someone else even if it is my father in law gives me a little anxiety.

{ONE}
One of the things that gets me going everyday is my coffee, I love having my coffee in the morning.  I found this coffee at Target and actually went back and bought their last bag it is that good!

The company is called Albion and they seriously have the cutest things I also bought a top and the material is so soft!! The pink top pictured is the one I also purchased :)

These pumpkin leggings are on the top of my want list too!!!

This sweet boy has started to sleep 6-7 hours at night!!! Hallelujah Praise be to God!!! If I could just go to sleep when he does we would be golden problem is I don't so I only reap the benefit of about 4 or 5 of those hours!!

This Sunday we will be dedicating our sweet boy to the Lord as well! I am so excited and have THE cutest outfit for him to wear!!!

lil bits

We have lots of little things going on so I thought I would just do a little bit of a random post

  • The neighborhood peacock who spends lots of time in our yard was showing off for us the other day, he stayed this way for a really long time so I was able to get quite a few pictures!

  • I started volunteering at my church and teaching sunday school to the kinder/1st grade class, it was so  much fun, I really look foreword to the future weeks with these sweet kiddos.  I have a passion for missions and serving others and being that the big out of country trips aren't very feasible right now with L being so young I think this is the perfect way to serve!
  • We finally found a baby sitter but the funny thing is since we found her we have only needed her once, our schedules have just worked out that we haven't needed anyone, God has certainly answered prayer in that area as our schedules and who was going to watch L had been a major source of anxiety and stress for me.
  • I have two big half marathons coming up, the first is ZOOMA my mom and I will be having a girls weekend and doing it together as we did two years ago, we stay at the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop, TX and its such a fun relaxing girls weekend.  Although it will be the longest I have left L so there is a bit of anxiety in that but I know it has to happen some time. I like to get a cute new outfit of some sort for my big runs and I got this skirt for Zooma:

LuLu Lemon

  • The other race is the Divas Half Marathon in North Myrtle Beach, you get champagne and roses at the finish line given to you by sexy firefighters!! My mom, gram and I will be doing this one, its in May and I am so excited for this one!!
Love this picture of my boys :)

I think thats enough lil random bits for now, hope yall have had a good monday!!

Rock and ROLL

This past weekend I ran in the San Antonio Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon.  it was my first since finding out I was pregnant.  Granted L is only 5 months old I knew it would be the perfect motivation to get my butt in gear!!  Not to mention my mom and Gram were doing it too and heaven forbid I let them run without me!!

My training was mediocre at best, I really wish I could have trained better but getting back into the swing of things was a little harder than I anticipated.  I LOOSELY used the Hal Higdon training schedule for Novice.  I say loosely because I didn't really stick to it but when I needed some guidance on distance and when to get started I would refer to it.

The days before the race I tried to really up my hydration, during my last half that was my downfall and it really sucked, I hit a wall at mile 10 and the last 3.1 were miserable because I think I wasn't well hydrated.  So this time I really tried to amp up the hydration the week before and then the day before the race I think I drank like over 3L of fluid not just water as I didn't want to end up with hyponatremia (low sodium).
about to start!!
The night before we had our usual pasta and I was able to get about 8 hours of sleep.  I was up bright and early and started my race routine.  I ate a bagel with peanut butter and drank a red bull.  About 15 minutes before race start I ate(?) a GU it was chocolate flavor which was like chocolate pudding.  It took me a long time to get used to GU because the texture really gags you but I take it in bits and also swig water so it dissolves in my mouth.  Once I started using it I really really noticed a difference in my endurance and the way my body felt during long runs.

The race was good, I made sure to pee right as the race was starting and thus did not have to pee during the race, I learned my lesson on that the first time...always pee before you start...the clock doesn't start till your chip passes the start and once you pass the start you cant pause the time and if you have to pee the long potty lines will KILL your time!

I hit a few rough patches but God was good and put the right song on my ipod in my ears right when I needed the motivation.  Believe it or not some of my most motivating songs are worship songs! I started getting a headache around mile 5 and was a little worried it was going to escalate into something else or worse so I stopped drinking as much water and focused on the Cytomax and then at the spot where they offered salt packets I downed like 3 salt packets as well as some GU when it was offered as well.  This was the right thing to do because my headache went away and I had the endurance I needed to keep up my pace and finish without any health problems or injuries.  When I hit mile 12 I had enough steam in me to book it and I hauled it to the finish and ended with a time of 2:09:01.  I wish I would have pushed it harder during the race and I could have gotten a better time but oh well.

I must also add, I forgot a part to my pump and didn't realize it till race morning.  I ran the race with rock boobs which really wasn't that fun.  Luckily some nice security men let me run in the locked up Henry B. Gonzales convention center so I could feed L and at least relieve some pressure haha.

It was a really good time, I wish there were more water stations towards the end and also at the finish its so congested with people you just want to go sit and you feel like a heard of cattle, also some fritos and mini bagel and some cookies is not enough sustenance for people who just burned over 1500 calories...just sayin
My sweet boy after the race having lunch...holding his own bottle like a big boy!

I cant forget...My Gram, who is 77 I might add, finished in 3:09 and my mom did 2:32...they are so awesome, I hope to be as healthy and awesome as them when I get to their ages!!!

Random Bits

  • This weekend, our house was FULL. My brother in law and his wife and three kids as well as my mother and father in law were all here, it was fun to see my nieces and nephew but a bit chaotic at the same time, I have never had that many people in my home before.
  • My nephew who is 10 months old (and freaking adorable fyi) gave us a glimpse into our future, Im not sure Im ready for that yet! He was so active and into everything, also opened my eyes to how much child proofing we need to do

  • We went to the Galleria this weekend so my nieces could go school clothes shopping.  That was traumatic and so stressful to say the least.  L was so fussy, having HUGE spit ups, wanted to be carried, refused to take a bottle, thus requiring me to make a trek to Saks because it was the closest bathroom/lounge area all the while L screamed all the way through Saks, so embarrassing.  He finally ate and calmed down took a catnap then once again refused to be in his stroller and just wanted to be carried.  Finally as we were walking to the car he fell asleep.  NEVER again will I attempt that until L is much more mature and less easily overstimulated.  The whole rest of the day it just broke my heart because I could tell he was so overstimulated, exhausted, and stressed.  Lessons learned.
  • My nearly 3 month old gets tangles in his hair after bath...this is not an issue a 3 month old should have to deal with!

  • On that note, I just cant bring my self to trim his hair, Im afraid he wont look like my little baby anymore and I am not ready to deal with that yet!
  • A little girl at play group today ended up having Hand Foot and Mouth Disease, L was exposed...now I am worried sick he will get it.  Im praying for the powers of breast milk antibodies to protect him!

  • I'm still in the market for an outstanding sitter for L, for now we will fly my father in law in to watch him on my work days, but I don't want to do that for long and I really really want a good sitter to watch him, All I can do is pray that God will bring a gem of a sitter into our lives!
  • I have been getting back into running and it really feels good to be back in the game, I cant wait for the San Antonio RocknRoll 1/2 marathon this November!!

Alrighty enough rambling for the night I need to get to bed :)

I'm Katie a 27 year old mommy and wife. Welcome to my blog where I will chronicle the happenings of my life as I find the balance between being both SAHM by day and CVICU nurse by night.

I love Jesus and strive to be more like Christ every day. Running, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite past-times. I love photography but I am no pro, but it helps I have such a cute subject to practice on!!
