Fathers Day 2012

Happy Fathers Day to all the daddies out there!

More specifically to my hubby, he has been such a fantastic father to L.  I love to watch him play and teach L all kinds of things.  He loves to take him out on days I have to work just so they can stroll Home Depot or go to the park.  He loves rough housing with him and teaching him all kinds of dangerous boy things like throwing yourself off the couch into daddy's arms.

He's always so concerned about his health and safety when he was a little baby he was afraid to let him play with the alphabet links on his play mat because he was afraid his arms would get stuck in them (which would be completely impossible) Its so sweet to see how upset he gets when L hits his head or falls over.

He loves to take the boy shopping.  Im pretty sure he wouldn't have half the style he has if it weren't for his daddy and his love for buying him "look alike" clothes.

It warms my heart to see them together and I can't wait for the years to come as L gets older and involved in sports and things that the hubby is passionate about, and seeing him pass on that passion to his son.  He has far surpassed my expectations and the father I imagined he's be!!

Beach Bums

This past weekend our little family took a trip to Galveston just for the afternoon.  We left around 1230 and it is only about an hour or so drive.  We wanted to check out the new Pleasure Pier that they built which honestly left much to be desired.  It was over priced to get in and there wasn't much there.  We had to pay about $10 per person to get in and not ride rides.  It only took us about 10 minutes to walk through and then we were done.  We decided to get a funnel cake at least to make our time there worth while.  I will say though it made for some very interesting people watching.  If L was older he may have enjoyed some of the rides but I don't know, maybe once they completely finish the pier it may be better, but for now we won't be back there.

wanna be Pauly D?

After the Pier we just headed to the beach to hang out for a few hours.  Galveston is a pretty ugly beach but the sand was soft and we sat far enough out that there was no seaweed.  We did go in the water some even though its ugly and full of seaweed.  It was warm and L liked jumping in the waves.

Getting buried, and not so sure about it

 Playing in the sand

Hi mom!!

Probably seeing some interesting people

After we played for a bit we went to eat at a place called Casey's I think.  I got fish tacos and they were so so good! Then we took our sandy selves home and got back just in time for L to take a bath and make it to bed on time... He was pretty wiped out!!

Baseball Birthday

This past Saturday we had L's 1st birthday party.  We had so much fun and although it was on Memorial Day weekend so many of our friends were out of town those that came made the day extra special for little L!

His birthday banner created by ME.  This is still hanging in our dining room because I love to see how he has changed over the past year.

Entry way, sign in table, this was taken at the end of the party, but there was a little Happy Birthday book that all our guests signed in on.

For the food we had Chicken Salad on Phylo dough cups, Ham and cheese pinwheels, watermelon, fruit salad, Funfetti cake batter dip and graham crackers for dipping, a cheese tray and little goldfish.  Water, coke and lemonade to drink

 The adorable water bottles

The smash cake that never was smashed because L was not a fan of cake.  I left his pop pop to decorating it and since he is a big Cincinnati Reds fan he took the liberty to write all over the cake!
Cute table runners made by my mom, the fabric matched the other accessories of the party

Silly Uncle Jay

I was so surprised and excited that my dad was able to make in to town for the party!

He was more interested in the candle than the cake...of course, typical boy

We had such a great time, Sarah at Life Sweet Life designed all the paper goods such as invitation, water bottle labels, gift tags and food tents.  She was a dream to work with and I would definitely use her again for future parties!!
The invitation

I used delicious cookies from Jolie Delights as the party favor, they are so cute and delicious!! They were big round baseballs!

I thought for sure L would be fussy and overwhelmed but he proved me wrong! He took a nap from about 10-1230 and woke up in a great mood, he sucked up all the attention and was quite the ham! We did have a professional photographer but I really wanted to get this post up and we don't have his pictures yet so I may just do a follow up post later when I get his photos.

Diva Run

Bright and early before going to the airport
A week ago my mom, gram and I headed to Myrtle Beach, SC to participate in the Divas Half Marathon.  It was such a fun girls weekend, although I missed my lil guy, and my hubby like crazy it was nice  getting away with my mom and gram for a little girls weekend.

We got there on Friday in the early evening and after checking in to our hotel/condo which I successfully took no pictures of, we headed out to find dinner.  I really wanted crab legs so we went to this huge place with a big crab on the front.  Well it was a seafood buffet that was $26 um no, we left.  There is no way I can eat enough at a buffet to justify $26, plus the atmosphere was poor.  We headed to a cute little place on the water called Chesapeake House. It was also a little pricey but the atmosphere and service were great and you got so much food not to mention the delicious cinnamon rolls that came with dinner!!

before the race headed to the gear check and start line
pink, pink everywhere!!!
On Saturday we headed to the Expo to pick up our race packets and check out the fun things to buy.  They had a few cute booths but I was slightly disappointed with the expo.  There was more cutesy stuff and little actual running necessities.  That didn't stop me from spending money on cute accessories like shoe bling and head bling! I must mention that it was so cold on Saturday!! I was so bummed as I was really hoping to hang at the beach.  Well instead we hit up the outlets and I stocked up on some super cute summer clothes like my favorite shorts and button ups from Jcrew and Banana Republic.  After we wore ourselves out, we went back to the condo to rest and cook dinner.  Our condo had a full kitchen so we thought we would just kick back and cook dinner there as opposed to going out since we had to be up so early the next day.

All Ready!!! Three generations, ready to run!!!
We went to walmart the night before to get stuff for spaghetti since its easy and good before a run but the kind lady forgot to give us our ground beef (and batteries) so we ended up with just noodles and sauce.  We did have wine though so I suppose that was the important part! We hung out, ate, and went to bed SUPER early!

Sunday was race day!! We donned our super cute tutu's our goodwill jackets (it was freezin y'all and I was not about to throw out my good long sleeve or lug it around for 13.1 miles!!) and our perfectly matching outfits and headed to the shuttle which would take us to the race area.

Love this big bling!!
I had a fantastic race as did the others.  I got a PR (personal record) at 2:03:10 and the weather ended up being perfect.  The forecast said rain and storms so God was shinin for sure!!  I felt good the whole race and really had a good time.  not to mention the good looking guys who gave us our medals at the end and the champagne and roses were a nice touch too.  Around mile 12.5 we also got a tiara and pink boa.  Like I said it was seriously a fun race and makes for a perfect girls weekend!!

I finally got to the beach after the race which was so nice although a little chilly for my texas self.

We had some flight delays getting home but all in all it was such a fun and relaxing weekend.  I love that my mom, gram and I do this and that my gram has taken such good care of herself that she can enjoy these things.  I cherish every trip we have together as I know they are memories I will carry with me forever and hope to share with my hopefully daughter one day!!

I'm Katie a 27 year old mommy and wife. Welcome to my blog where I will chronicle the happenings of my life as I find the balance between being both SAHM by day and CVICU nurse by night.

I love Jesus and strive to be more like Christ every day. Running, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite past-times. I love photography but I am no pro, but it helps I have such a cute subject to practice on!!
