So today is the day, I finally go back to work and start my new job. I'm SO excited, this is what I have wanted to do since I graduated a year ago and wasn't able to do because I was a new graduate nurse they didn't have enough preceptors (the nurses who trains you, for us it was about 5 months) in the level III NICU so I spent a year in level II which is a step down unit to the NICU, the babies are more stable and don't need as intensive monitoring. It was too slow for me, I need a challenge and some excitement.
So here I am staring my new job the unit is HUGE in the level III alone they can hold between 80-90 babies the entire unit level II and III can hold up to 135 babies... that's HUGE and the unit is really nice. I am a little nervous though because things are very different here I'm out of my comfort zone, I have new people to meet, new rules to learn, and much sicker babies to care for. I just keep reminding myself to take one day at a time and I'm not alone I have my preceptor to guide me through the next three months. More worrisome is that I haven't worked night shift in about a month and i only had one day to transition myself, this should be interesting... bring on the caffeine!!!
Wish me luck and say a prayer.
