So to rewind to last tuesday night when i was going to take care of a 23 week preemie. It was a HORRIBLE night!!!
We had started computer charting the night before, I am very familiar with computer charting I've only ever used computers for charting but it is still a new program and I'm not familiar with THIS computer charting program. SO not only was I learning this computer charting program which is extremely complicated and not user friendly whatsoever, probably one of the most un-user friendly programs also, not only did I have this 23 weeker I also had another baby to take care of and my preceptor had a baby who was pretty time consuming. I ended up having way more things to do than time would allow and patient care is priority I didnt even get to sit down and chart till 3am and i didnt leave work till almost 8am when I usually leave by 7am.
I did learn alot and through that night I know have a better system for myself as far as how I plan my time management. It was a horrible night and I left feeling like a bad nurse like I just couldnt do as good a job as I know I'm capable of doing. I expresses my frustrations to my preceptor the next night we worked and she told me thats part of being a nurse in this kind of unit and it happens to everyone now and again and thats what makes you a better nurse.
