Ten on Tuesday

1. What book, movie or song has made you want to travel to a particular place? (eg. I went to Prince Edward Island because I was such a Anne of Green Gables fan) I am not sure about this one a lot of the books I read take place in undesirable places I love memoirs and alot of the ones i have read are in tiny towns or bad areas of towns. Maybe I could go to new York based on the Confessions of a Shopaholic series when she goes to New York City?

2. Aside from your significant other, who would you want to take with you on a dream trip?
I would take a friend, it would have to be someone who is fun to hang out with drama free and has a good sense of humor, I'm choosing not to pick by name because I have several options

3. Where would said dream trip be to?
My all time dream would be to go to Tahiti

4. If you were hosting guests or providing tips, what three things would you show visitors to your hometown? (be it where you live now or where you grew up) I would give three tips when traveling to Japan I lived there for 2 years and some things stand out.
1. when traveling out and about its usually best to wear a skirt and carry a small package of tissue as many of the public toilets are porcelain holes in the ground without toilet paper so its much easier to squat and pee when wearing a skirt and many don't have TP so you'll want to have your own
2. carry a book or something to keep yourself entertained on the trains/subways long stretches can get boring and you ll look more in place if you have a book or fancy smart phone to play with
3. pack light- dragging many bags and or suitcases through public areas draws A LOT of attention and dirty looks from the locals

5. If you had a long weekend ahead of you, where you head – beach, city or country/mountains? I would go to Chicago, Mark and I have been wanting to go for a while now, either that or back to Boston we had such an awesome time the last time we went I love that city to death!

6. Do you have a passport? If so, did you get it for a particular trip or just to have, in case? I do have a passport, and I use it often, I first got a passport to go on a missions trip to Mexico then I had another passport for when I lived in Japan. I have used my passport to go to Mexico, Belize, Africa, A cruise, and my honeymoon to Antigua

7. Are there any travel souvenirs you collect? If not, is there something else you collect? Not really I used to collect shot glasses but after moving a few times they are all still in the box from like three apartments ago, so I don't really collect anything I think about the show Hoarders when I think of collections, so when I travel I will get something useful, such as jewelry, art whatever

8. If you could name a paint colour, what colour would it be and what would you call it?
I would name my paint color Shazam and it would be a really bright pink, not neon pink but just very bright and jewel toned

9. If you were heading away for a weekend city break solo, where would you go? (forget about practicality here and flight times, assume you can get to any city in the world for the weekend) I don't like to travel solo so I would go somewhere that has people I know.

10. Is there a song or a smell or something that you strongly associate with a particular holiday/place/time, such that it always takes you back? Cinnamon smell brings me back to Christmas when I was little and we would always wake to the smell of Cinnamon bread in the bread maker

Clarity and Appreciation

Last night it was made clear in my mind that I love my job...in the neonatal ICU. I was floated to another unit it was a pediatric unit and i went in with a good attitude because I hate when people come to our unit with a chip on their shoulder and pissed off because they had to float. However with that said it sucked I hated it I realize I dont like pedi I like babies... little ones...I appreciate my job alot more now honestly.

We all know it sucks floating to another unit, but deal with it. So I did. I guess my assignment wasnt bad but it was with kids who are larger than I can hold with two hands and one of them talked and was scared of nurses and I dont kmow what to do with big kids like that!!! I love my babies and last night made that even more clear to me.

This video has been floatin around facebook between some fellow NICU nurses but I wanted to share it here. I love this video and it tries to put into words and pictures why my job is so awesome!! It brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it.

super cool giveaway by Tay

so over at The Undomestic Goddess Tay is giving away this Sodastream you can make your own soda at home!! I think this would be so cool, if you go to their website they have the nutrition facts of their soda based on the brand name and to make it at home is way healthier and less expensive, also, you can use it to make your tap water into flavored sparkling water or an energy drink YUMMMMY

Stayin busy

So the past two weeks have been like a whirlwind, super duper busy, but very fun!!

We started of this craziness by going to Vegas March 23-25 (a tuesday through thursday) we went for my birthday just me and the hubby. It was so fun, The Venetian was having a special when we booked and we were able to upgrade to a suite for free.

This place was glorious mainly the shower is what exited me it had the rain shower head thing plus the body jets, I could have lived in there!! The bathroom was about as huge as the living space and it was all marble and very pretty. We were slightly disappointed by the comfort level on the bed though we would have thought they would have invested in some softer sheets or something.

We didn't do alot of gambling actually we just stuck to the penny slots. I have not the slightest clue how to play any of the card games but we decided when we go back we will study up on some of them so we can participate. Mark likes blackjack but decided not to make me sit around and wait for him even though I said it was ok I didn't mind. We really just did alot of walking around but thats fine by me :)There is so much to see in Vegas that thats all we really had time for.

For my birthday we went to eat at this super fancy restaurant and had one of the best meals I have had in my life!! I got the Kobe beef flat iron steak which came with a small dallop of mashed potatoes and one carrot haha and then we got a bowl of sauted serrano peppers which I was hesitant of at first but they were so amazing not the slightest bit spicy. I also ordered this sushi that had pop rocks in it!! It was quite the delicious experience and I would have never thought to put pop rocks in sushi but it totally rocked!!! Then after dinner we went to see a Cirque du Soleil show "O" It was fantastic and think everyone should get a chance to see it!

Then we came home thursday and friday I left for Austin to run another 1/2 marathon with my mom. This one was the best it was the ZOOMA womens race series in Austin. The course was beautful, lots of clean porta potties with TP and then after the race we got free massages, free beer and wine, free lunch and lots of other free goodies...because you know thats totally why I run for the free beer and goodies at the end!!

I beat my last time by 24mins!! I did the race in 2:03 which now makes me want to beat my time and do it under 2 hours!! I know if I train I can do it because I really didnt train for this one I admit it! My mom was a total rockstar too, she had a pretty serious calf injury about 9 weeks ago and was instructed by her doc not to run, but shes too competitive and did anyway and actually beat her last time by 4 minutes!! The picture above is actually her crossing the finish line.

The weekend was a great girls bonding time with my mom hangin at the pool and chattin it up!!

Then I worked during that next week and headed back to Austin last weekend for my sweet friends wedding shower and bachelorette party she is such a sweet girl and we had an amazing time and I am so excited to be in her wedding in May it will be my first time as a bridesmaid!! Her shower was like one out of the movies. It was so much fun and so amazing I am going to dedicate it to a post by itself!!

Now I am back home trying to get my life back into routine and back into the daily grind, but man the last two weekd sure were a blast!

I'm Katie a 27 year old mommy and wife. Welcome to my blog where I will chronicle the happenings of my life as I find the balance between being both SAHM by day and CVICU nurse by night.

I love Jesus and strive to be more like Christ every day. Running, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite past-times. I love photography but I am no pro, but it helps I have such a cute subject to practice on!!
