Project 52::10

52:10

 LIFE

But all things should be done decently and in order
1 Corinthians 14:40

There is just something about the diapers being washed, organized, and in color order.  These aren’t all of them just the most recent load, but it just makes me happy when I get them washed, stuffed and in order as opposed to in a pile, selected as they are needed.

We have been doing cloth diapers for about 9 months now, as we started when L was about a month old since I was rather uneducated on the newborn diapers.  Anywhoo…the use of cloth diapers in this house has changed images a bit since the beginning.  Gone are the days of throwing them all in the dirty bin without a second thought until wash day.  Oh no, since the introduction of more solid foods the diaper situation has gotten a bit ugly at times and not as glamorous as it once was.  I have done it long enough though that I am in love with cloth diapering and am slightly addicted to buying them, a little poo can’t change my mind at this point in the game.

Now days the way I deal with the yucky ones is not my first choice which is why a diaper sprayer is on its way from Amazon.com to my house.  At the present the poo diapers get dunked in the toilet while it’s flushed numerous times until they are semi clean then placed in the dirty bin.  I wash about every 3 days sometimes every 1 or 2 depending on the number of poo diapers we’ve had since I don’t like them to sit long.  I still have the same wash routine though a cold rinse followed by a hot wash and two cold rinses.  I still use Charlie’s Soap and I have not yet had a problem with the diapers being stinky after the wash…it seems to not matter how gross they are going in they always come out fresh and white.  I also have started doing “tub wash” cycles on my washer to sanitize my washer, I don’t know if its necessary or not but it makes me feel better.  At the present we use about 5-6 diapers a day and still use disposable diapers at night since I got tired of L waking up at night because he was cold and wet and then having to change jammies and sheets at 2 am!!

And that my friends is what our cloth diaper journey looks like at 10 months old

March Birchbox

Back in February, I decided to try and sign up for this Birchbox, I had heard about them and thought it would be a fun. When you try to sign up they put you on a wait list for a few weeks and I finally got my email saying I could purchase my subscription.  I literally checked the mail daily once march started in anticipation for my Birchbox.
It was the cutest little box and so fun to open it to find all these little surprises

This month, Birchbox teamed up with Teen Vogue, and I received:

Essie- Lux Effects in Gold as it Gets- this is so pretty on top of another color nail polish, it gives a gold sheen, perfect for these warm sandal days ahead, this was a full sized bottle

Twirl by Kate Spade Perfume sample- I really like how this smells, very fresh for summer

Kerastase Elixer Ultime- a sample bottle of this hair oil, it seriously makes my hair so soft, a little goes a long way so this little sample will last me a long time!

Tarte LipSurgence lip stain- a full sized tube of this lip stain, the color is a little more pink than I usually wear but If I use a small amount it's actually very pretty for spring, I do like the way it feels on my lips though

A little pink Twistband- this is a little hair tie, I like it, it actually holds my hair tight and doesn't leave a huge crease, plus its cute!

Also, not pictured, was a coupon for ModCloth.com, they have the cutest dresses, although I usually have a hard time finding stuff in my size.

This was so fun and for only $11 a month, I cant wait till April's box comes!!

Spring Wreath

I had been trying to think of a fun wreath to make for spring and then realized I had some fabric I loved that I wanted to find a use for, well I thought up this idea and did some googling to find its actually a quite popular project so I bought a few more supplies and got to work.

My supplies were:

- 1/2 yrd of three different types of coordinating fabric
- wire wreath form
- rotary cutter
- self healing cutting mat

Then, I cut 1inch wide by 5.5-6 inch long strips of all the fabric...I did have some extra strips left over at the end

I started doing one fabric at a time and tying knots sporatically around the wreath, then found it worked best to just go around the wreath tying different fabrics as I randomly grabbed them

Just keep going around each level of the wire wreath form until its all full, it was pretty easy and was something I could do while I watched my son play next to me

9 Months

I cant believe my big boy has been on the outside as long as he was inside me, that is crazy! He seems so much less like a baby now and more like a little boy, this fact makes me sad and proud all at the same time!
At his 9 month appt he weighed in at 20# 6oz, he was just over the 50th percentile and she didn't tell us his length but said it was between the 25-50th percentile. His growth slowed considerably in the last three months, but, he is still my chunky man with a big head(18inches 75th%).  He did so good at his appt he had to get his 2nd flu shot and did not even cry one bit, he looked at the nurse for a second and then started smiling once I picked him up, he is such a tough guy!
He is eating like a champ these days and I am so so happy about this!! He loves butternut squash and apples and I also started feeding him yogurt and little bits of food thats not pureed.  He loves noodles and today at lunch ate pieces of banana and peas.  I think he just doesn't like the texture of pureed foods because pretty much anything I give him that is not mashed he loves but always makes a face when he eats pureed foods.  I thicken the purees I have with oatmeal but probably wont make too many more purees as he seems totally ready for whole foods.  I am not going to lie though the first few times he at whole foods I was so scared he was going to choke, but the boy has to learn sometime!!  Also, puffs and mum mums are his all time favorites!! He is still nursing and will nurse anywhere from 4-6 times a day and when I work he takes an 8oz bottle at bedtime.

He is sleeping well, often he cries when we lay him down but usually not for long he has made his bedtime later around 8-9pm which is ok because then M gets to see him when he gets home from work, and he sleeps till around 830 in the AM...usually...some days he still wakes up at 6, no fun.  He doesn't have a "lovie" although I wish he did because I think its cute but I guess its one less thing to take away later.

He is a HUGE mama's boy!! If I am in the house he wants to be with me and he loves to cuddle with momma which I love and cherish because I know it may not last forever.

He is wearing size 6-9m and some 12m stuff, he needs bigger size pants because of the cloth diapers.

He isn't crawling yet but wants to so bad, he does scooch on his but and loves to "walk" when we hold his hands.  He is also starting to try and pull up on stuff mainly the edge of the bath tub, the couch, and me.

He loves his Sofie the giraffe toy and anything squishy he can chew on, the boy has 8 teeth now!!  He loves bath time, going on walks, and his jumpy jump as we call it.

He has started to despise diaper changes and doesn't like to be left alone... and nap time...we will leave that unmentioned :)

I cant even describe how much it melts my heart when he says "mama" and gets so excited when I get home from work.  His smile is so happy and I think there is nothing better than a big ol grin when I look at him.

Life

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will make your path straight
Proverbs 3:5-6

That was the verse from church this past Sunday and it is one of the key verses for my life.  This is a verse that I learned early on that I refer to often especially in recent years being at an age where big things are happening in my life, from graduating nursing school, starting my first job, moving to Houston, getting married, switching jobs, buying a house, having a baby, making new friends...I could go on, but this verse is so important because events and opportunities come up in my life and how do I differentiate something that I want to do verse something God wants me to do.  I refer to this verse and pray about it and I know that God is in control and I have turned my life over to him and I know that if something is meant to be he will make it happen.

For example, I had always wanted to go to Africa and in total random one day a few years back a new friend came in to my life who was getting ready to start prepping for a mission trip to Uganda.  I told her I was interested in going to Africa one day and she said why not now? I had no good answer for her and I prayed about it and everything literally fell into place including the fact that I did not have enough money for the trip and randomly the week the money was due someone made a donation to the mission fund at church and that completed the amount I needed in order to go.  The whole time I would worry and then remember that if God wanted me to go He would make it happen.

The path that God makes straight may only be the very next step but if I lean on him and trust that He is in control (which, is so not easy sometimes) He will make that next step clear to me, It doesn't say the whole path all at once, but maybe just the very next step in my path, this gives me great peace in my life and also one more reason why sometimes its best to just lean on God and live in the moment one day at a time.

I'm Katie a 27 year old mommy and wife. Welcome to my blog where I will chronicle the happenings of my life as I find the balance between being both SAHM by day and CVICU nurse by night.

I love Jesus and strive to be more like Christ every day. Running, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite past-times. I love photography but I am no pro, but it helps I have such a cute subject to practice on!!
